Ben Lawry…

How can a paddling chap who has only just turned 40 have spent 30 years in a kayak? Practically born into water, Ben has all the major qualifications you would expect from the ACA and BCU, but he also has competed in every major paddling competition of note -- from sea kayak racing, to surf and white water – and he has either won or been a finalist in most of them!

Forward paddling is easy, right? You do it 99% of the time. Ben can un-teach your bad habits and make you 100% more efficient – that means greater speed and much less effort for something you spend most of your time doing. That’s just got to make sense! Want to have fun in the surf rather than sit it out and watch the others have an awesome time? Ben lives in the surf and he can show you how to have balance, grace and tame the crested beast. White water excitement in a class whatever river? Ben has paddled them all, and he can show you how to do it safely and with the finesse that would even make your grandparents relax watching your exploits on U-Tube. Rolling is also a piece of cake when Ben shows you how to do it the Lawry way ... on dry land before you get wet. Heard a rumor that Ben’s sea kayak camp adventures are legendary? Not only will he introduce you to kayak frisbee, the experience will allow you to become a better navigator and team player so that you can get your buddies home safely, even in the dark and under the most unimaginable conditions!

Ben is a Brit who now calls the U.S. his home. Although he claims to live near Savannah, South Carolina, he actually lives with his wife Elizabeth in a 28-foot mobile trailer which transports his fleet of P&H boats with him as he spends over 200 days attending every kayak symposium and paddling-related event of significance in the country.
